Until God Becomes Everything You Seek

Our goal should be to seek a relationship with God first. Then everything else will be given to us.

There is a truth I encountered in the early days of my walk with God, and it has never left me. It has, in fact, set the trajectory of my entire pursuit of faith. Simply stated, it is this: until God becomes everything that you seek, nothing you seek will ever be enough.

At first glance, this sounds like a simple statement. But sit with it long enough, and it will begin to expose the root of why so many believers live in perpetual dissatisfaction, chasing blessing after blessing, breakthrough after breakthrough, and still finding themselves empty.

THE SEEKING THAT NEVER SATISFIES

Many seek what God has to offer. Fewer seek God Himself.

This is the quiet tragedy of much of modern faith. We come to God for provision, for healing, for open doors, for peace in the storm, and rightly so. God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. But there is a difference between seeking the hand of God and seeking the face of God. One is drawn by what God can do. The other is drawn by who God is.

Until God Himself becomes the only thing we are truly seeking, we will not be satisfied with whatever we are seeking in His place. The gift was never designed to satisfy the way the Giver satisfies.

THE PROBLEM WITH SEEKING SUBSTITUTES

Consider it carefully. If you are seeking provision, you will not be satisfied with provision until God becomes your provision. If you are seeking power, you will not be satisfied with power until God becomes your power. If you are seeking peace, deliverance, or any other benefit that flows out of salvation, you will remain restless until God Himself becomes that very thing to you.

This is why so many believers experience a strange emptiness even after their prayers are answered. They received what they asked for, but they never arrived at the One they were truly made for. The answer came, but the ache remained. That ache is not a sign that God failed you. It is a sign that you sought a gift where you needed a Person.

DAVID'S SECRET

This is why David, a man who understood the heart of God perhaps more than most in Scripture, never anchored his identity in what God gave him. He anchored it in who God was to him.

He did not simply say God gives salvation. He said, "God is my salvation." He did not simply say God provides protection. He said, "God is my protection." He did not simply say God gives strength when needed. He said, "God is my strength."

Do you see the shift? David moved from seeking the benefits of relationship to declaring the identity of the One he was in relationship with. And that, beloved, is the end of seeking. That is where searching gives way to settling, not settling in complacency, but settling in the deep, unshakeable rest of having found what the soul was truly searching for all along.

That is absolute satisfaction. That is absolute freedom.

THE GOAL BEFORE US

Our goal, then, should never be to seek the hand of God while neglecting the face of God. Our goal should be to seek relationship with God first. When that relationship becomes settled, when God Himself becomes the treasure rather than the transaction, everything else will be added unto us.

This is not a formula for getting things from God. It is an invitation to want God more than the things He gives. And when you arrive there, you will discover that you were never truly chasing provision, or peace, or power. You were chasing Him all along, and everything else was simply Him meeting you along the way.

Until God becomes everything you seek, seek Him.
